It occurred to me that there's another place that Perrin C Cooley might
fit -- and it might best explain the auDNA match between his descendant,
Jack, and Gloria Tanner: Could Perrin have been a child of John's (later
married Martha Bearden)? John's children were listed on his brother's
(James) probate, but the only Perrin listed was John's brother -- who we
have long believed to be Perrin Jr.
But might Perrin C have been disinherited for one reason or another? Might
he have been illegitimate? (We already suspect that John had issues over
"controlling himself.") All we know for sure about John's age is that he
was born before 1810. But he could well have been born just after 1800,
making it biologically possible. Perhaps he denied being the father. Or,
perhaps, no one knew where Perrin was in 1858 and he wasn't listed simply
for that reason.
Consider, too, that we find Perrin C living with John's son Edward. That
they might have been brothers or half-brothers would make sense.
And then there's the DNA. The prediction is that Jack and Gloria are 3-5th
cousins. If this theory is correct, they would be 4th cousins, which fits
just right.
Gloria's mother is going to take the test. This will first confirm that
the match *is* on her side. If Jack's father were to test and the two
(Jacks's father and Gloria's mother) tested as 3rd cousins, then we'd be
spot-on.
Just some thoughts. We'll see where the testing takes us.
