There is information out there, including on Find A Grave, that lists J
Madison "JM" Cooley as James Marion Cooley - however, that person was born
in 1845 and had a wife named Lucinda. This James Marion Cooley is found on
census in Georgia for periods when J M Cooley is listed in South Carolina
with the children that I have listed for him. J. Madison Cooley & Myra M
Smith divorced abt 1871. I found this listing for a James Madison Cooley in
California:

Daughter, Saphronia Angeline Cooley Spake's death certificate lists her
father as "Mike Coolie" - informant was her husband.

Daughter, Myra Louisa Cooley Robin's death cert lists her father as "Madison
Cooley".

Son, Robert Flavius Cooley's death cert lists his father as "Mr (M or N with
G written over it) Gnat Cooley". Robert died of cancer of the throat & neck
& "Erysipleas", and information was given by son Wordon who did not know his
father's age or date of birth.

I have a lot more research to do on this family. I do have a lot of
documents associated with this family if there is further interest.
