No worries, Mary Lou. Spelling seems to be like horseshoes with this
family.
On the 1880 census he is Erwin E. Cooley He died from typhoid fever in
1909.
I was chasing E.C. for several years as I thought my great grandfather,
John,
was his son. It didn't help that E.C.'s brother, Milo, also had a son named
John
right around the same time. But I never would have found Milo without E.C.
If you run into any dead ends I may be able to help. I know at least one of
John Wesley's sons went to Alabama. I have a theory that Mike Cooley from
the band Drive-By Truckers is related but haven't found the link yet.

I did a lot of research on those lines last year.

Currently I have been working on the line of John Cooley (1805-1846) , s/o
Perrin Cooley, Sr (1769-aft Nov 1841).

FYI - George Harvey Cooley (09 Nov 1864--08 Sep 1947) s/o Ervin Wilson 'E C'
Cooley (04 Oct 1834-04 Sep 1922) s/o John Cooley went by Dick Cooley. He &
wife Lizzie Haydon are shown on the 1920 census with two of three sons
(James & Patrick) of brother Irwin E & wife Katherine 'Kitty' Cooley. In
1930 Dick & Lizzie have the third son Harry Cooley living with them.

I have two more sons for John Wesley Cooley & Louise Harrison: Leo Harris
Cooley (1914-13 Aug 1970) & Odell Cooley (abt 1918- ). They also had 5
daughters.

I have a lot of other information on this line if anyone is interested.

The Y-DNA sample for a descendant of Daniel Cooley is in the lab. We
should know the results in about 6 weeks.

Several years ago my dad (Allison Claude "Jack" Cooley) volunteered his
DNA for his mitochondria. (He died in 2011.) There's still a sample left.
A few weeks ago I ordered Family Finder and a look at the two Y-STRs of
mine that mismatch the modal. Results are due May 5.

And I'm taking a closer look at the descendants of Edmond Cooley:

http://ancestraldata.com/ahnentafel/256/lineages/edmond-desc.html

For those who may not know, a descendant of Edmond's matches 37 of 37
markers of our modal. That he appears on at least one record in
Spartanburg SC with Luke Burnett, John Cooley's son in law, in 1805 make
it all but certain that he's of our group. He was of age (about 27) in
1800 to have been on the census, which is one reason I think he *might*
have been Rice Cooley. Of course, he could have been out of the area
already. John had five young males under 17 on the 1790 census. They would
have been Perrin, James, Edmond or Rice, Reuben and Cornelius.

A more detailed study of Edmond's children is in order. Perhaps some
article, bio, family bible, or obit will make some kind of allusion to the
person's grandparents.
