Maiden names

On our search for the maiden name of Dolly Cooley this came to mind and I just had to send it.  Please forgive me.   Hist. Soc. of Laguna Woods, July- Aug 2009   In an article about trying to get a loan in 1930. Question asked by loan company agent.   "What was your mother's maiden name?"   "I don't know"   "How come?"   Well, sir, I didn't know my mother until after she married."
