DNA test for females

I'm quite familiar with Y-DNA and how it works, but I am just starting to investigate MtDNA.
 
Does the group have any opinions on the best place to take an MtDNA test? Which test is the best deal? Which company has the most participants or is easiest to transfer over to other sites?
 
I'm still not convinced it will tell me anything value, but I admit that I am curious.
 
My father's DNA test was done at FamilyTreeDNA.com and I've since transferred it over to Ancestry.com. Neither has uncovered much information because 90% of the participants either have no tree information attached or it is sketchy at best. I'd like to support which ever company is doing this "right" if that is at all possible.
