Hi, Michael,
I can help with Nancy White, my 3rd great-grandmother. Here's what I have:
Nancy A. White was born in 1816 in Fort Hempstead, Howard, MO; died February 1885 in
Clay County, MO. Notice of her death appears in the Liberty Weekly Tribune on 20 February 1885, so presumably she died a few days before publication. She was married first to James Harvey Gragg on 7 Mar 1833 in
Clay County, MO. He was born abt 1812 in Cocke County, TN, and died 11 Mar 1849 in
Clay County, MO. She was married on 25 Oct 1867, also in Clay County, to his older half-brother and
her longtime neighbor, Benjamin Gragg (born 28 Dec 1791 in Cocke County, TN) on
25 Oct. 1867. Benjamin died 30 June 1871.
Regarding
Elizabeth Cooley and William White, here’s what I have:
William C.
White was born 19 Jul 1789 in Mercer County, KY. He was married 3 Jul 1813 in
Howard County, MO, to Elizabeth Cooley. He died 12 Jan 1875 in Stewartsville, Clinton,
MO.
Elizabeth
Cooley was born abt 1794 in Oldfield Creek, Stokes, NC, daughter of Joseph
Cooley and (mother’s name unknown.*) She was married 3 Jul 1813 in Howard
County, MO, to William C. White. She died in 1882 in Stewartsville, Clinton,
MO.
* Sorry to go off on a tangent, but I've never found (in my admittedly limited research) a name for Elizabeth Cooley White's mother. Perhaps we should be looking for an "Ann." Most researchers seem to think that Nancy's middle name was "Ann." I use only the initial "A" because I have only one piece of documentary evidence (a marriage license) that validates that much. But I note that you list a sister as "Mary Ann." It's certainly possible that both girls shared a middle name -- and if that is so, I'd really think that searching for an "Ann" as a mother to Elizabeth Cooley White might be a good place to start. Just a thought.
Also, I note that you list the names of ten children for William C. and Elizabeth Cooley White. In her 1878 article in the Liberty Weekly Tribune, Elizabeth says that she and William C. reared 11 children, with 8 still being alive at that point. So one name is missing.
Michael, thanks for all that you do in maintaining this list and otherwise moving Cooley research forward (and unscrambling the lines.)
