Thanks for contacting me.

First, let me point out two errors in the 1860 census. You may have
already noticed that Mathias was born in MO rather than KY. It was simply
an error in the census taking. "Ransom" Cooley is an error by the
transcriber or indexer. A number of us have looked at the original entry
and are convinced it says Perrin. This would make sense since Mathias had
an uncle and at least two cousins named Perrin.

I had totally lost track of Calvin--in fact, most of Mathias's family. But
this could certainly be him. The age and birth place match on the later
records match.

I'll forward this to a list of researchers working on the descendants of
John Cooley and see if any of them has anything further on this.
