The William Cooley that we have been attributing to Perrin is last found
on the 1850 census in Missouri. That James's brother was in Oregon by 1858
isn't contradictory. But I can't find him on the 1860 census. Nor can I
find Edward, Eleanor/Nelly Green, and Elizabeth Stinson for 1860. I wonder
if they were on the move in the way the John's children were on the move
in 1811.
What of Julia Ann Cooley? There's little doubt this is Martha Bearden
Cooley. Julia Ann is described as her daughter. The usually indexed age
for her is 59, but that seems unlikely.

She's not listed as one of John's children. Was she a child of Martha's
from a former marriage? If so, why is her name Cooley? Was Martha first
married to another Cooley? Or is this Mrs. Julia Ann Cooley? It's clear
that John and Martha did not marry until 1835, but he obviously had
children by then. Was he previously married or did he and Martha simply
not bother with it for a few years?
Lots of questions still. But things *are* coming together.
