Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Monday from Thuerwachter's with
interment at Sunset. Rev. Mathewson of the Four-Square Gospel church will
officiate.
Mr. Cooley was a well known figure in this city. He at one time operated a
strawberry farm at Millington and had gardened in this city.
Two years ago he made all arrangements for his burial, purchasing a plot and
choosing a tombstone. The stone was cut by the late C. B. McClelland and for
a time was lost. However, it was located this morning.
Surviving are three sons, W. A.[Arthur] of Illinois; R [should be Aubrey].
Cooley, Oklahoma; Arthur [should be Arch], Missouri, and a step-son, George
Trainer [Treanor] of Millington.
Benjamin Rush Cooley was the son of Benjamin & Ann Cooley of Missouri (their
deaths/burials unknown, but presumably in Macon County, MO). He was first
married to Mary Jane Lucas (memorial #62049905), sister to Hiram Lucas, who
married Ben's sister, Theodocia/Theodoshia "Doshia" R. (Cooley) Lucas
McKinney Lane (memorial #87829957).

Subject: Benjamin R Cooley, son of John Cooley
I need help with this family and I am hoping someone on this list will have
the answer.
Benjamin R Cooley, son of James Cooley and his wife Elizabeth, was born ca.
1816 in Howard County, Missouri. On 11 January 1843 in Howard County,
Missouri, Benjamin Cooley married his cousin Elizabeth Cooley. Howard
County, Missouri Marriage Records, vol. 2, page 222. She was the daughter of
John Cooley and Elizabeth White.
The 1850 census for District No. 52 Being for Macon County, Missouri list
Benjamin R age 34, Elizabeth A age 25, Mary F, age 6, and Dosia R age 1.
This was indexed as Benjamin B Cooby.
The 1860 census for East Chariton township, Macon County, Missouri list Benj
R Cooley, age 40, Elizabeth age 40, Mary age 17, Dalia age 10, Martha age
10, Benjamin age 6, Nancy age 5 and Dolly age 1.
The 1870 census for Hudson Township, Macon County, Missouri list Benjamin
Cooley age 54 born MO, Elizabeth age 45 born MO, Martha age 18, Benjamin age
15, Nancy J age 13, Darreth age 10 and Tempe age 4.
The 1880 census for Hudson Township, Macon County, Missouri list Ben Cooley
age 64, MO, KY, KY; Elizabeth age 40, KY, TN, NC and Delithe age 15, MO, MO,
KY.
Apparently Benjamin R Cooley died sometime after the 1880 census and 1883 as
a Mrs. Elizabeth Cooley of Hudson Township, Macon County, Missouri married
William Russ of Hudson Township at her home on 4 April 1883. Benjamin R
Cooley was the only Cooley living in Hudson Township.
A Mrs. Elizabeth E Russ born 14 Nov 1834 in Kentucky and died 27 December
1915 in Bevier. She was the daughter of Lorenzo Richardson born TN and
Rebecca Forbes born KY.
NOW MY QUESTION:
Apparently the first Elizabeth Cooley died between the 1870 and 1880 census,
but I cannot find a marriage for Benjamin Cooley and Elizabeth Richardson.
Does anyone have this? Nor can I find an earlier marriage for Elizabeth
Richardson, so was this a first marriage for her to Benjamin R Cooley?
Any help appreciated.
Sandy
