I just realized that I didn't answer your question! I found this on
Ancestry.com. I have not found anything to connect Rufus M Cooley to John
Cooley as his father - but they are next door to each other on the 1850
census. Here is more info on Rufus M Cooley:

the same page - 2 lines away from Andrew J. Cooley.
There is a Rufus Cooley listed on the 1830 census in Sheshequin, Bradford
Co., Pennsylvania. There are 4 Cooley's listed in Bradford Co., PA:
Aron Cooley, Ridgebury, Bradford Co., PA
Isaac Cooley, Springfield, Bradford Co., PA
Isaac Cooley, Ridgebury, Bradford Co., PA
Rufus Cooley, Sheshequin Co., Bradford Co., PA
Aron & Isaac Cooley are on the same page. These are the Cooley families in

My question is whether or not Rufus M Cooley is the same person as Rufus
Montague Cooley; however, on the 1850 census, Rufus' birthplace IS listed as
"Mass". On the 1870 Pine Rock, Ogle Co., IL census; Rufus M Cooley, Jackson
Cooley & Joseph Cooley families are listed next door to each other 0 Rufus
M. born in Mass, Jackson Cooley born in PA & Joseph Cooley born in IL.
At this point, I am more confused; especially, concerning the birthdate &
birthplace of Rufus...
